How can we be like the Christmas Star?

During Advent, we look forward to celebrating Jesus’ birth. Before He was born in Bethlehem, Israel, a star was seen in the sky that proclaimed this new King’s birth.  How can we shine like a star and point the way to Jesus today?  This addition to the Advent blog series answers that question.

Today, we can be “Wise men” and shine like a star by pointing people to Jesus.  When we witness to others about the Savior who was born over 2000 years ago, we can illuminate the darkness that they live in and give them the greatest gift of all–the Gospel of salvation.

The Bible says that witnessing is like being a star in the sky, giving people direction.  Daniel 12:3 says, “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.”   In a similar way, Philippians 2:14-16 says, “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may be- come blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life.”

Today and tomorrow are wonderful times of worship at Christian churches everywhere.  Invite someone who doesn’t know Jesus as Savior.  At Christmas parties, pray during mealtime, or take a moment to share your faith as you converse with people.  As you hear Christmas songs, point out a favorite lyric that proclaims the Christ-child.

No matter how you do it, when you confess Christ, you are pointing people to Jesus just as the Christmas Star did for the Wise Men.  May you shine brightly this Christmas time!
